iTunes + Every other MP3 player

So you've paid your $0.99 per song for your music, and having done so have nothing left to spend on an iPod... So you go to Wal-Mart and buy a cheap MP3 player and take it home only to find you can't play your songs from iTunes on it! Thanks Apple! Never fear, there is an answer!

Enter the seedy underground of cigarettes, cheap beer, illegal drugs (as well as software) and angry twenty-something year olds that still live in their parents basement...

Okay, well... maybe not. Let me introduce you to JHymn, its a cool little program that allows you to remove the DRM information from your iTunes purchased songs. As a side note, JHymn is not designed to break the DRM encryption, its designed to remove it from songs you have the right to remove it from.

A word of caution... If you're on of those people who doesn't have a clue about computers, please go to this page and make sure you install the latest version of Java before trying to use JHymn.

First step: Download JHymn

Second step: Download your FairKeys
- From the main screen of JHymn click the "FairKeys" menu
- Select "Download your keys..."
- Enter your Apple Store ID (usually your email address) and password
- Click "Connect" and now (if you're smart) it will inform you of its success

Third step: Settings JHymn up to remove the DRM
By default (read: for legal reasons) JHymn doesn't remove the DRM, so you need to tell it to
To do so:
- Click on the "Edit" menu
- Select "Preferences"
- Under "Unwanted Atoms" enter:
(apID)
(cprt)
- Click "Okay"

Fourth step: Picking the files you want to remove the DRM from
By default JHymn will process your entire iTunes library, if you just want a few tracks follow the onscreen instructions, otherwise click "Covert" and wait for a few hours (depending on the size of your library). It usually takes a few minutes for each track, depending on how fast your computer is.
